In 2016, the Kaska Dena Council dedicated resources to support joint initiatives with the BC Conservation Enforcement Officers to set up check points, conduct site visits in each region of the territory, and collect data from traffic counters placed in high-use areas to better understand impacts from over-use and over-hunting. Kaska Dene Guardians focus efforts on monitoring these high-use hunting areas, collecting data, and handing out information brochures about Kaska Dena, culturally sensitive areas, wildlife management areas, and respectful use of Kaska Dena lands. Guardians also record and report back on any activities of wrong doing.
